Sharing the Festive Joy with Ethnic Minority Families from Tung Chung through a DIY Workshop
A Season-Special Giveaway Game Launching on Social Media with Crossbody Bag Awards Await
Hong Kong, 19 December 2024
HK Express organised the “Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bags” decoration workshop at its headquarters.
As the holiday season approaches, HK Express Airways (HK Express) hosted a handcraft workshop earlier this week to share the festive joy of giving with more than 10 ethnic minority families. The participating kids styled the “Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bags” with embroidery charms. HK Express also invited a pilot and a cabin crew member to introduce their daily work in the aviation industry, while our upcycling partner, The Billie Upcycling explained the process and importance of upcycling to the participants. The limited-edition crossbody bags, made from retired baby crew uniforms, will be available for sale exclusively at Cathay Shop beginning on 23 December (Monday).
Creative Upcycling: HK Express advocates for sustainable development, and fosters connections with the local community
Since last year, HK Express has launched a series of upcycled products, such as the Christmas socks for charity sale, as well as the sustainably-crafted “Moving Drawing” pouch and teddy bear Berry, to promote sustainable development through creative means. This year, HK Express partnered with The Billie Upcycling, a local upcycling brand for old clothes, to launch the “Ukids Explorer Upcycled crossbody bags.” Through a waterless process, the bags are crafted by upcycling the textile waste into recycled yarn. The design is filled with playful elements, featuring knitted shapes of travel essentials and graphics related to the HK Express brand. Three embroidery charms of our brand logo and aircraft can be ironed and attached to the bag for a personalised touch.
Highlights of the “Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bags” decoration workshop
‘HK Express is rooted in Hong Kong and is committed to giving back to the community, especially to the Tung Chung community within our neighbourhood.’ Kee Keat Ong, Commercial Director, HK Express said. ‘We are very delighted to team up with The Zubin Foundation, a non-profit organization who works to improve the lives of Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities, and ran an upcycling workshop for over 20 children and parents from ethnic minority families. During the workshop, the young participants not only adorned their bags with the embroidery charms, they could also understand more about the daily lives of the aviation world from our pilot and cabin crew. While The Billie Upcycling’s representatives have explained the upcycling process to the participants.’
‘“Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bag” showcases our brand’s vibrance and creativity, it is also an embodiment of HK Express’ commitment to promoting a circular economy and sustainable development. We hope to enhance environmental awareness in society through these upcycled products and to unite community efforts in working towards a more sustainable future.’ Ong continued.
Limited “Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bag” on Sale
HK Express collaborates with The Billie Upcycling once again, to launch the “Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bag” and invited them to introduce the importance and principles of upcycling. The recycled yarn used as materials for the crossbody bags went through a waterless process during upcycling, emitting zero hazardous discharge. The bags were then packaged with the #INVISIBLEBAG, a landfill biodegradable plastic bag alternative, in the objective to minimise unnecessary packaging. Through refining our creative design products, we’ve successfully upcycled 80% of fabric extracted from 3,000 old cabin uniforms, a concrete step to actualise our commitment towards sustainable development.
The “Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bag” will be available for purchase exclusively at Cathay Shop starting from 23 December (Monday) for HKD$280 each. HK Express will also launch a Q&A game on Facebook and Instagram, inviting the public to comment on the designated posts and share their creative upcycling ideas. 20 winners with the best answers will be awarded with a “Ukids Explorer Upcycled Crossbody Bag.”Follow us on social media to stay updated on the game release date!*
