HK Express Awarded ‘Top 10 Safest Low-Cost Airlines’ Again

AirlineRatings.com Named the LCC a Perfect 7-Star Safety Rating

Hong Kong, 08 Jan, 2018

Hong Kong-based airline HK Express is pleased to be named one of the world’s ‘Top 10 Safest Low Cost Airlines for 2018’ by AirlineRatings.com for the third year running, coming in with a “7-star safety rating” — the highest ranking possible. Announced on 3 January 2018, the annual study shortlisted the “Top 20 Safest Airlines” and “10 safest Low-Cost Carriers” (LCCs) in the world, drawing from a pool of more than 400 airlines, including both full-service and low-cost carriers

Each year, the independent, industry-respected research group delivers expert safety ratings based on a one to seven-star system — seven being the highest. The rankings analyse several factors, including the audits from aviation’s governing bodies and lead associations, government audits, airline’s crash and serious incident record and fleet age. The airlines also have to comply with the stringent International Air Transport Association Operational Safety Audit (IOSA)* and have an excellent safety record.

There are no expenses spared when it comes to airline safety at HK Express. As one of the LCCs in the world to be IOSA-certified, HK Express will continue to pursue world-class safety standards at any cost,” said Mr. Li Dianchun, President of HK Express. “This honour from AirlineRatings.com acknowledges our commitment to safety, which has always been the airline’s core value since converting into an LCC in 2013. We look forward to enhancing the customer experience in 2018 with excellent service, uncompromised safety, and continued dedication to the wellbeing of our guests.

As a safety precaution, HK Express launched a new Smart Baggage Policy at the beginning of 2018. Based on IATA guidelines, the LCC’s “Acceptance of Smart Baggage with Integrated Lithium Batteries” policy prohibits “Smart Baggage” — innovative luggage that contains lithium batteries to power features such as GPS, Wi-Fi and power banks — with non-removable lithium batteries from both checked-baggage and carry-on.

* IOSA is an internationally recognised and accepted evaluation system designed to assess the operational management and control systems of an airline. The audit includes more than 1,000 parameters and airlines must be re-evaluated every 2 years.
