Returns to Malaysia, further expanding its Southeast Asia network of destinations
Hong Kong, 22 Nov, 2024
HK Express Airways (HK Express) is delighted to announce the launch of its new route connecting Hong Kong to Penang International Airport (PEN). The first flight officially took to the skies yesterday, marking the company’s re-entry into the Malaysian market, an invigorating new destination where travellers “Gotta Go” to explore and experience the vibrant blend of Eastern and Western cultures.
“As Hong Kong’s only low-cost carrier, we are committed to offering affordable fares and, with our comprehensive flight network, enable our customers to effortlessly explore Asia's vibrant cities,” said HK Express CEO Jeanette Mao. “Southeast Asia is generally known for its value-for-money proposition, and Penang is no exception. With our competitive pricing, travellers can save money to indulge in local cuisine and cultural experiences, truly embodying the spirit of ‘Live More.’”
“HK Express attaches great importance to the Southeast Asian market,” Jeanette added. “This year, we have launched four new destinations, including Penang, Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport, Clark in the Philippines, and will commence services to Phu Quoc, Vietnam next month. Currently, a quarter of our customers are from the Greater Bay Area. As this year coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, along with the recent extension of visa exemptions between both countries, we anticipate an influx of mainland Chinese travellers to Penang. Our new route not only offers more choices for travellers but also contributes to enhancing cultural exchange between these two regions,” she added.
Cathay Pacific currently operates a daily flight between Hong Kong and Penang, while HK Express’ night flights complement this service, offering seamless connectivity for passengers travelling to over 80 destinations worldwide operated by Cathay Group, transiting via Hong Kong. Penang is famous for its rich historical heritage, diverse cuisine and natural beauty, and is home to a large Chinese population. Locals, many of whom are multilingual, shall make visitors feel right at home. Many are fluent in Malay, English, Mandarin, as well as various Southern Chinese dialects including Cantonese. Not to be missed is the annual Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta, the highlight of the local calendar, and this year, approximately 100 members from Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland dragon boat teams flew with HK Express’ inaugural flight to participate in the upcoming races this weekend. We look forward to their success and the pride they will bring!
