HK Express Encourages Creativity and Cross-cultural Awareness

Six Winning Students of Aircraft Livery Design Competition Explored Culture, Food, Art and Technology in Kagawa Prefecture

Hong Kong, 20 Jul, 2018

Hong Kong-based airline HK Express hosted an exciting tour that took six talented students to Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture of Japan from 4 to 8 July 2018. The participants were the winners of the A321 Aircraft Livery Design Competition for underprivileged secondary school students, which took place at the end of March. On this trip of a lifetime, the students swam with dolphins, visited local university businesses, and explored the design aesthetics of Japan.

As one of the official sponsors of the 42nd Hong Kong International Film Festival 2018, HK Express hosted a movie screening in March inviting over 130 high school students to attend. Riding on that opportunity, the airline rolled out the aircraft livery design competition on the theme of “a Happy Journey” to cultivate creativity and cross-cultural awareness amongst local youths. The competition saw more than 70 entries, of which six winners were shortlisted.

HK Express took the six talented winners on an all-expenses-paid cultural exchange tour across Kagawa to explore the sights that Takamatsu and the neighbouring areas have to offer. All flights, accommodation, food and excursions during the 5-day trip have been covered by HK Express with Kagawa’s support. The action-packed itinerary comprised hands-on activities and cultural exchange experiences, such as a university visit, Chiyoda Manufacturing Corporation tour to learn about renewable energy, Sanuki Udon-making workshop, volunteering at an elderly home, and an art tour to the nearby Ogijima Island.

“By hosting the livery design competition, HK Express aimed to encourage students to get in touch with their artistic sides and really find the meaning behind happiness,” said Mr Li Dianchun, President of HK Express. “The five-day tour was a fantastic opportunity for the winning students to explore Japanese culture and design aesthetics. We look forward to continue our efforts in supporting and developing more programmes to involve other communities in the future!”

“We had a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Takamatsu, I will never forget it,” Yeung Tsin Tsin, student from Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wah San Secondary School commented. “We would like to thank HK Express for bringing us on such an amazing trip!”
