Discover Okinawa’s Stunning Shimojishima Island with HK Express

HK Express Rings in New Route with Exciting Introductory Fares from HKD180*

Hong Kong, 19 Jul, 2019

HK Express, one of the region’s leading low-cost carriers, is thrilled to debut its inaugural route between Hong Kong and Miyako-Shimojishima today (19 July). A continuation of its ambitious expansion throughout Asia, HK Express has scheduled departures three times a week on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, so passengers can explore the idyllic Miyako Islands at their own pace.

To celebrate the new journey, HK Express is offering incredible HKD180* up one-way fares for the introductory period from now until 21 July 2019 (23:59), with a travel period from 19 July to 19 October.

Before the inaugural flight took off from Hong Kong International Airport today, HK Express representatives and VIPs from Japan hosted a few festivities at the boarding gate, showering the route’s first passengers with souvenirs. Those in attendance included Mistuhiro Wada, Ambassador and Consul-General, Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong; Hiroshi Yakumaru, Executive Director of Japan National Tourism Organization in Hong Kong; Mutsumi Nakasone, Director of Okinawa Prefectural Government Hong Kong Office; Fanny Yeung, Senior Manager of Hong Kong Tourism Board, HK Express’ General Manager of Branding Development, Eric Thain and General Manager of Ground Operations, Nicolas Wong.

“We are excited to introduce the first routes between Hong Kong and Shimojishima, making it quick and convenient for travellers to explore this peaceful archipelago,” said Jonathan Hutt, Commercial Director of HK Express. “Our guests can expect sunny skies, sandy beaches, snorkeling, scuba diving, and countless outdoor activities across the Miyako Islands – making them ideal for solo travellers, couples, groups and families alike.”

Japan’s pristine Miyako Islands are located on the southwestern side of the Okinawa archipelago. Shimojishima is adjacent to the main island, connected by over-water bridges that afford sweeping ocean views. Consistently sunny, sub-tropical weather means travellers can explore the islands and underwater life nearly all year round, while fresh seafood ranks amongst the top draws for food lovers. When it comes to scuba diving, the mythical Toki-Ike Pond (designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty and a National Natural Monument) is a highlight. What looks like two pods is actually one, connected through an underwater passage – an experience that’s popular amongst both seasoned and amateur divers.

Clear water and colourful marine life aren’t the only highlights. Travellers can explore countless outdoor activities, from golfing to SUP yoga, music festivals, banana plantation tours, cave diving, paragliding, stargazing, sunset cruises and more. The islands offer plenty of quirky experiences too, such as unforgettable ‘Mermaid’ photo shoots – where you can unleash your inner Ariel for an afternoon! Whether heading to the Miyako Islands to relax with family, hang out with friends, or mark a romantic milestone, there’s something for every type of traveller.
